REMOTE ONLINE NOTARY (RON)On June 7, 2019, HB 409 “Electronic Legal Documents” was signed into laws Chapter2019-71 and took effect on January 1, 2020, in addition with 1N-7001, FloridaAdministrative Code. This law authorizes Florida notaries to perform online remotenotarizations after the completion of an application and training requirements. According to the law any commissioned notary in Florida can apply to become an onlinenotary and to perform an online notarization regardless of the physical location of theprincipal, provided the notary is physically located in Florida while performing thenotarization. Witnesses may be physically present with the principal or by means of audio-video communication technology in conformity with Florida law. Remote Online Notariesmust take certain steps to ensure the security of the notarization, including the use ofaudio-video technology to verify the identity of the principal. Additionally, the entire audio-visual conference session must be recorded and electronic journal shall be maintained forat least 10 years after the date of the notarial act.Requirements to Become a Remote Online Florida Notary:•You must be an existing notary public, a civil law notary or commissioner of deeds. FIRST TIME APPLICANTS, must complete a FREE three hours online essential notary education course.•Complete a two hours Remote Online Notary education training and receive a certificate of completion.
